Yoga is known to have plenty of benefits, but did you know that it also has benefits specifically for men and athletes? At the core, this ancient practice is based on stretching different muscle groups for greater flexibility, ease of movement, and greater power. And these benefits translate to sports performance, gym gains, and overall health allowing your body to move as it should.

No chanting required to master these yoga postures and workouts! Written by Dean Pohlman, sports coach and author, this yoga book for men is focused on yogas functional fitness benefits and less on the spiritual or emotional aspects. A wonderful gift and fitness resource, Yoga For Men: Build Strength and Improve Performance will help men meet their performance goals, play harder and feel better. Yoga For Men: Build Strength, Improve Performance, Increase Flexibility

Never having done yoga before I now do it everyday. Each posture has its own page with photos and explanation. Clear and easy to follow. There are programmes for easing pain, improving posture and promoting fitness. These are clearly set out by picture and name, with time to hold for beginners and advanced contained on two facing pages of the book. The workouts are also set out to vary over the weeks. It is the physical side of yoga, which suits me and having learnt the positions, takes about 30 minutes a day.I’ve bought several copies for friends and relatives. I can’t recommend highly enough. No, I’m not receiving anything for this review and have no connection to anyone involved in its publication or distribution. My mother at 88 has been a yoga instructor for 40 years and says my postures are very good.Appears you can learn somethings from a book.I do have two digital timers, one face up on the floor and the other at height up on the wall, meaning I can focus on moving quickly and smoothlyish to the next position. Dean Pohlman This book is awesome! I've bought so many yoga books and tried classes and online courses but none of them explain things as well as this book. There's no fuss, no nonsense, it just tells you what you need to know and you don't need to light any candles or burn any incense!!!Most importantly, it tells you what to feel, what each pose is good for and what muscles should be working. Brilliant pictures and explanations of each pose. Also has a great section at the back which shows you workouts for problem areas such as stiffness in the back or hamstrings, a workout for when you've been standing all day, workouts for runners etc etc. Also a bunch of longer term workouts (eg 12 weeks) to improve certain aspects of your fitness or just to help you look and feel good.I can seriously recommend this book. I've been doing yoga for 2 years daily and I've learnt new stuff from page one! Dean Pohlman As a yoga teacher I already have far too many yoga books, but couldn't resist this one. I like the pro tips for progression and the not there yet for modifications. The what you should and shouldn't feel are very useful reminders to tell students. At the end of the book there are various workouts and some 12 week programs for general fitness. The book, although called yoga for men, has poses suitable for both sexes so I can use the ideas in it for mixed classes. I purchased a second copy for my son to take to uni, so he could practice on his own. Dean Pohlman Look past the exclusiveness of the title. Obviously these poses work for men and women, but in calling the book “Yoga for Men” the author is trying to attract men to a form of exercise/meditation often thought of in the West as “women only” for some indecipherable reason. The health benefits of practising yoga are well documented, and this book does a great job of providing an access point for beginners, as well as plenty of useful information for the experienced. The photographs and explanations are very clear and thorough, and the author has included easier options for those less flexible folk who are “not quite there yet”.DK seems to be a mark of quality in exercise books, and this one is no exception. In full colour, well written and researched by a trusted expert: it is a great supplement to a yoga class, or a viable alternative for people with good body awareness and proprioception (a full length mirror advised, to be sure). Dean Pohlman The headline says it all, saw this book in a shop and had a flick through and seemed great. Bought on Kindle as would be travelling and it is awful to read with pages that just have a single small picture or piece of text. The paper/hardback versions are good, definitely recommend those, but this gets one star as it is just a crass attempt at getting on the Kindle store with no regard for quality.
