Rating 4 /5 Mystery Thrillers In the Shadow of Inheritance: A Haunting Love Story by Manjiri Prabhu. It's an mesmerizing story. I'm glad to read this amazing book. A blend of mystery and romance.
The Story Revolves around Tara, Rohini, Meerakka and Sarang with some other side characters. Characters makes the plot more beautiful and curiosity. I loved the Sarang character. After reading such a wonderful story, I want to see these places Panchgani, Kesarli, Rajwada and Mahabaleshwar. Because you can feel the depth, it's just awesome definitely you will forget where you are. Once the reader starts visualizing the book you feels magic happening right infront of you. The unexpected twists and turns sum up to the curiosity.
Talking about the story line, it is very descriptive and the author has made all efforts to make it interesting and the book keeps you hooked till the end, especially when you approach towards the end, the curiosity will be increased.
Language makes a delightful read and understand. Cover of the book is amazing and title of the book is exactly apt. I would like to suggest this for everyone. Happy reading.... Mystery Thrillers
A girl named Tara from a small town Kesarli in Goa roots for an adventurous life. She yearns to explore beyond her town. As a result of her eagerness, she steps out of her boundary and takes up college in Panchgani. Panchgani is a beautiful place which cradles the Rajwada, a sumptuous mansion, near her college. Sarang, the care taker and business stabiliser is handsomely mysterious. His demeanor intrigues Tara. Besides Sarang, the Rajwadaa magnetise her towards it. She sets out to unravel the connections between herself and the mansion Will she be able to find out her link with the Rajwada?
The best part about the book are the high-spirited women of the book. Each female character, be it the protagonist or the side ones, have an amalgamation of femininity and valour. Every woman has a say in the plot. It felt good that no woman was portrayed as 'abla-naari' (if you know what I mean)
Tara's determination to dig deep into her past is commendable.
The chemistry between Tara and Sarang is ethereal. I'm glad that the author didn't just shove the bollywood-ish romance in the reader's face. The bond is warm, ebullient and false proof.
• The book is written in a coherent manner. The expressions involved in the book are extremely pinpoint and apt.
• Besides the main characters, there is a network of side characters who are given appropriate amount of light in the plot.
Character specification is nicely done.
• Mystery is constant in the book. The character Sarang's disposition helps in the upliftment of the enigma. It's a rich mystery. If you love mystery then what are you waiting for, huh?
• My experience with the book was good. I enjoyed reading the book. It has those 80s mystery touch to it because of the mansion. The book is a good mystery book one can pick. Mystery Thrillers When I first saw the book cover I thought it to be a romantic love story but I was surprised the moment I read the prologue and realised it is going to be much more intriguing than what I thought it to be. The story is a combination of love, thrill and mystery.
The story revolves around the main characters Tara, Rohini. Tara, an ambitious and cheerful girl is living an idyllic life in Kesarli with her mom Rohini and their governess Meerakka, who loves Rohini and Tara like her own daughters.
Tara wants to explore new things and new places beyond Kesarli. Her desire lands her in Panchagani where she is destined to discover her past and the secrets related to the alluring Rajwada which changes her life forever.
The story thus follows Tara's journey towards unravelling the mystery related to Rajwada and her past. In this journey, she finds herself between strangers but the only thing that kept her determination strong was her newly found friend and love interest Sarang.
The story although has so many characters, not even for a minute I felt confused and all the characters are given equal importance by the author. The mystery and suspense are maintained brilliantly throughout the story that the readers will stay hooked until the end and just when you think you guessed the culprit, it turns to be someone else. The shocking climax is just cherry on the cake for the readers.
The places and the characters are described so magnificently by the author that you feel like you are actually living in those places. I liked the character of Tara and bonding between Sanika and Tara is so lovely. I couldn't keep this book away for a minute until I completed reading it. Having read the author's other books, I loved this just as much as I loved her other novels. I'm so glad I came across this book. “Destiny has strange ways of its own. When something has to happen, nothing can stop it.”

I am unable to start reading another novel since I want to dwell in Kesarli, Mahabaleshwar, Panchgani and the Rajwada for some more time. This book is hard to get over with. While I try to read more my mind comes back rushing to this book. The way in which the Author has built the plot is something to be appreciated. She makes you completely believe at something and then later we find out that we were cleverly deceived.
.
“You may be surprised, but back home I used to be called the ugly duckling!’
‘I suppose that was so because only ugly ducklings turn into such beautiful swans.”
.
I really want to visit these places after the vivid and poetic descriptions about them. I love wandering in new places and I surely will visit those places that were mentioned in the book someday hopefully soon.

I like books that portray women beautiful and in this book I felt that all the female characters, right from the three central ones of Tara, Rohini and Meerakka, to the side characters like Bela, Sanika and even the many house helper were independent and made a whole new aura. Mystery Thrillers Family ties and inheritance always find a way to find you.
Ratings 4.2/5
Tara leads an idyllic life in the small town of Kesarli in Goa.But as she grows up, her desire to explore beyond the confines of her palatial home and little town, takes her to Panchgani. Life takes a 360 degree turn when she begins to discover that her roots might be tied to the Rajwada, a beautiful mansion situated not far from her college in Panchgani. Her growing feelings for the mysterious Sarang who takes care of the Rajwada and its business, makes matters even more complicated. Will Tara unravel the answers to her past? Read this family drama to find out.
What I liked about the book:
—> Begins with a bang and hooks you in the right manner to read more, right away.
—> All the female characters, right from the three central ones of Tara, Rohini and Meerakka, to the side characters like Bela, Sanika and even the many house-help characters, were fierce and independent in their own way, and an aura of ,haters around them which helped keep the curiosity of the suspense in the story, intact.
—> The way the Rajwada and its beauty has been described. It made me wish for it to exist in reality so I could visit and admire it someday in person.
—> The build-up of the suspense around what happened so many years ago is kept intact till the end, making the reader doubt all the characters about who the culprit would be (We even begin to doubt the hero Sarang at may points)
—> The twist in the end, where Tara is made to believe the culprit is somebody else, and then it turns out to be somebody entirely different.
—> The whole story is very visual in its narrative and it felt like I was living it or watching a movie. I believe it would be a visual treat if turned into a movie/series someday because it has all the right elements.
—> How it proves that legends and talks about spirits and supernatural beings, are a mere tool of convenience planted by people to make way for their own selfish means.
—> How the culprit doesn’t turn to be someone from Tara’s obvious band of suspects (though I had an inkling as to who it might be. But that’s a curse of having read so many thriller and suspense books)
What I did not like about the book:
—> The family tree and various relationships were kind of confusing; I especially kept trying to figure out and ensure whether Tara and Sarang were related or not. And at many instances I had to go back to figure out where a character first appeared and what was his equation in the entire story/plot.
—> I wish there was more to Tara’s earlier life and relationships, especially with Kirit.
Quotable quotes:
—> Sometimes, it really doesn’t matter what you want from life. Where you live, whom you meet, the successive events in your life . . . because destiny has already taken over and planned its own course—and all you do is follow the path set out for you.
—> Who cared about looks when there was so much to eat and do?
—> ‘At this rate, you’ll never get a husband. Men prefer sweet, gentle women with the right, delicious touch to the fingers,’ she warned.
‘And I want a husband with a delicious touch to his fingers!’
—> All mothers are partial to their daughters, regardless of the reality.
—> Destiny has strange ways of its own. When something has to happen, nothing can stop it.
—> I really needed to get a hold on my treacherous facial expressions.
—> It was naturally most disconcerting when someone made you the target of an unblinking stare.
—> You may be surprised, but back home I used to be called the ugly duckling!’
‘I suppose that was so because only ugly ducklings turn into such beautiful swans.’
—> A question asked must secure a satisfactory answer.
More here: https://wp.me/p6XQyB-2ci Mystery Thrillers I have always been someone who literally devours mystery. But this is the first time I have picked something which is an amalgam of a thrilling tale with a pinch of affection added to it.
The story revolves around three central characters Tara, Rohini and Meerakka. Tara wants to explore the world and doesn't want to get restricted in her particular zone. The story takes a huge turn from the norm when she discovers her roots, her past has something to do with beautiful Rajwada. Even her growing fondness with Sarang just adds to her deep inkling about the place and mystery element of the book.
The book is one of its kind. There are so many characters but the way author has maintained everyone's independence in their demeanour is praiseworthy. The suspense element of the story keeps the readers second guessing who might be the culprit but it turns out to be someone totally different. Though there were instances when it was a bit difficult to find relations between different people.
I could find traces of the legend Agatha Christie in the way story is woven and narrated. Beautiful visuals, in depth characterisation and most importantly building the narrative in such a way that readers are made to focus on one aspect of the novel but the twist in the end gives a shock which certainly leaves an indelible imprint on the psyche of readers. The impeccable description of imaginary locations and places are just an icing on the cake and adds to the mood of the setting.
All in all, a book which will satiate all kind of literary hungers. Mystery Thrillers
