After more than a year of job hunting and eating cheap noodles, the letter arrives. Brice Anders has landed the pastry chef position at a five-star restaurant. As he heads for the new village with his signature recipes secure in his pocket, Brice is confident no one will rob him of success again.
Meeting Izzie, the barista at a local coffee shop, is more than he ever expects. Restaurant guests give his Christmas desserts rave reviews. Even the previous pastry chef, who left without notice, never received such praise.
Then, late one night, Brice finds his home kitchen ransacked, his designs in the open, and the special confectionary Christmas gift he is preparing for Izzie ruined. An angry man’s face appears in the window. Brice hunts for him through the ice and snow, but the Intruder is gone. With Christmas only days away and the tormenting intensifying, Brice must stop the intruder’s plot to steal his job—or worse, harm someone from the restaurant.

I really enjoyed this story. Next time I read a story from Mary Vee, I will need to remember to make sure to have time as it was surely a page turner! I did NOT want to put it down and I didn't! I spent the day reading it instead of doing my 'work'. Great Book! Mary Vee I received a free copy of this story from the author. The opinion expressed is my own honest assessment. I was intrigued from the very beginning by the air of mystery surrounding the main character. His secret wasn't revealed until the very end. I loved it! Mary Vee Very interesting. The movie Memento came to mind as I read it. Mary Vee
Master pastry chef Brice Anders, so happy in his new job, is soon plagued and troubled by a mysterious intruder or stalker at his new home in a small, picturesque mountain village. The author skillfully drew me inside the main character's head to the degree I felt Brices's anger and consternation. Could this intruder harm him or the young lady he admires? This is a wonderful Christmas read written by a skillful author. Mary Vee Uplifting
I enjoyed reading a book with such compassionate characters. Brice is an interesting young man I come to care for as he was written so believable. We need more villages like the one Brice moved too. Mary Vee After a tragic accident, Brice Anders is down on his luck, barely scraping by. Finally, as if by Christmas magic, he is presented with an amazing job opportunity in a charming village. He is provided with a new home and is able to showcase his culinary talents in a five star restaurant. He meets some lovable characters among the way, and life seems to have turned around for him. However, a mysterious intruder seems to be intent on throwing a monkey wrench into Brice’s second chance. Brice must figure out how to foil the intruder’s plans before Brice’s Christmas plan is ruined.
It was so easy to rate this novella with 5 stars. I would give it more stars if I could. This story drew me into it immediately and kept me hooked and wanting to know more and more with every page.
Anton Chekhov said “Don’t tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass.” This quote perfectly describes the type of writing I love to read, and author Mary Vee delivered this in full force. Mary did an exceptional job of showing me the glint of light on broken glass. I felt like I was in the story as a fly in the wall. I could see, smell, taste, hear, and feel everything. I felt that I knew Brice. As Brice met the other characters, I felt that I was meeting them and building friendships with them as well. I felt invested in the story and enjoyed reading it very much.
I had a very hard time putting the book down and I would have read it in one setting if my baby would have let me. I loved how the book ended and I was so intrigued with the author’s inspiration for the story, although I was sad that the book was finished I could no longer get lost in the magic of the village.
I wish I would have been able to read this in front of my Christmas tree with a decadent dessert and a coffee with cream, not milk, but the story is lovable any time of the year. I highly recommend it. Mary Vee This story swelled from the depths of my soul.
After having lost career opportunities due to wrong place, wrong time. Loving someone who lost her memory then didn't know me. But blessed to have a daughter who became a chef, a crafter of delicacies. All of these rolled into the making of this story about Brice Anders, a man -- who did his best to survive after a horrible accident stole his memory.
I hope you find redemption in this story.
Mary Vee Mary Vee An amazing read
This little novella truly is a special bit of fiction. A young man with a brain injury but who can do amazing things with dessert is offered a job as a pastry chef in a prestigious restaurant in a village and it comes with an apartment.
The longer he stays the more Brice begins to think something is going on. Can Brice figure out the village's secret before Christmas?
I was asked to read and review this novella by the author and while I am not normally into Christmas fiction, I highly enjoyed this little hidden gem. I hope you enjoy this beautiful little nugget of a novella as much as I did.
I got this book to review from the author and I am so glad I did. I Mary Vee
