All Things Bright and Beautiful (All Creatures Great and Small) By James Herriot
This a book I read before the convenience of cell phones and anything else digital. Am not old as dirt, as some might say. Have read so much since that story lines and authors blur. Herriot's stand out for me, and I enjoyed the 2nd time even than the first. The main reason? Very few authors write well and even fewer per genre. You stand out when you make your words glisten with meaning.
Another great read by James Herriot in my favorite genre. Am always interested in lives, customs and histories in decades and centuries past. He gives me that deep insight into his life in Yorkshire as a country vet just before WWII. As usual Herriot entertains and paints a lavish tableau of memorable people, places and times. Great brain candy! Thank you, Mr Herriot! All Things Bright and Beautiful (All Creatures Great and Small) I love to watch the old and new TV series based on James Harriet. His business is now a tourist attraction but James Harriet trained a nice Vet and he has his own tv series with this other guy all based on James Harriets' dedication to treating all animals and doing what you can to save an animals life. I noticed though, that in England and in the USA that people wait a month or several weeks to take in an sick animals to the vet. One farmer has a sheep and had a huge cyst on his ear that was bigger than a baseball and it was dangling and they waited a month to call the vet. And in England and in the USA people let their cats and dogs run free and not being spayed or neutered and they end up getting shot by a gun or hit by a car, but what makes me even madder they wit weeks to take the animals to the vet. Then the kicker is they let the dogs and cats back outside to repeat the same thing all over again. Due to not being spayed or neutered same in England and in America. All Things Bright and Beautiful (All Creatures Great and Small) All of James Herriot's book are wonderful and timeless! If you love animals and interesting English characters, you will love this whole series. I started out with book one (All Creatures Great and Small) and ended up reading them all. You will laugh, cry, smile and feel good in general after reading his books. God Bless this author! All Things Bright and Beautiful (All Creatures Great and Small) love these books by James Harriot. When I ordered this one I was thinking that it was the first, instead it is the second of the series. Will now need to order All Creatures Great and Small Ah well, good ready non the less. All Things Bright and Beautiful (All Creatures Great and Small) As expected All Things Bright and Beautiful (All Creatures Great and Small)
From the #1 New York Timesbestselling author of All Creatures Great and Small: true stories of a veterinarian in small town Yorkshire, England.
After his first day on the job, James Herriots mentor warns him that the life of a country veterinarian is full of small triumphs and big disasters, but that hed never be bored. From night visits to drafty barns during freezing northern England winters, to the beautiful vitality of rural life in the summertime, to the colorful menagerie of animalsand their ownersthat pass through his office, Herriotexperiences new challenges and joys every day. In these pages, Herriot trains under his eccentric boss Siegfried Farnon in a rustic English village, courts the woman that becomes his wife, and meets the people he would come to write about for a lifetime. All Things Bright and Beautiful (All Creatures Great and Small)
I love all his books. One right away gets into a story, no lengthy preambles. His stories deal yes with tending to all sorts of farm animals and some cats and dogs, but it is also the human relationships between farmers and him as a vet and usually the stories have a funny twist. Interspersed between his stories are descriptions of the beautiful Yorkshire landscapes that he so loves. All Things Bright and Beautiful (All Creatures Great and Small) Remember these books from my college days. I've always loved them and had the complete set. When they became available on Kindle for a wonderful price of 1.99 I just had to get them again to read anywhere I might have a few moments. James Herriot was one the the most delightful storytellers relaying his life in Yorkshire as a young Veterinarian. Each book continues his journey through the struggles and laughter during the early 20th century England. Although the names have been changed, including James Herriot, he has provided a perfect walk through the history of the time period. Highly recommend these tomes. All Things Bright and Beautiful (All Creatures Great and Small) This is second book by James Herriot that I've read. I love the short story format and the fact that each chapter can actually stand on it's own as a story. When sitting in noisy airports or in cramped airplane seats, its was nice to get away from this world and step back in time to the 1930's Yorkshire countryside. I love all animals and enjoyed the episodes shared in this volume. It was as enjoyable and hilarious as the first book All Creatures Great and Small. I look forward to reading of these books. All Things Bright and Beautiful (All Creatures Great and Small) These stories are very good and typical Herriot. It’s the mixed up timeline. It bounced all over the place and not coherent. The individual stories were what I expected. Some brought a tear, others were funny and some groaners. This felt like a collection of stories that didn’t make it in the regular books All Things Bright and Beautiful (All Creatures Great and Small) I can't add to the great reviews of this book already out there. I will just say that it is poignant, well written, and engaging. I love the short chapter approach to the book. Reading about a simpler time through the eyes of a man who loves animals and (most) of their owners is soothing to me. I was surprised at how the book was about the interesting people of this region and their relationships with their animals than the animals themselves.
